04/25/15: Girl Scout Day with the Society of Women Engineers at WVU

We had a family attend the SWE event at WVU this weekend. They enjoyed a "gravity globe" and experimenting with centripetal force with not only jello in a cup being spun in circles but also with a spinning balloon containing a penny.

Another fun activity was a rocket that blasted off from straws!

04/16/15: Globetrotters Game

The Globetrotters put on quite a show and in spite of some bad officiating, they beat the Washington Generals :) The girls were laughing for hours!

Meeting #17: 04/15/15

The Brownies finished 3 of 5 projects toward earning their Home Scientist badge and Daisies got fired up for working on their Science badge for the next meeting.

With the help of a super-chilled brine solution (rock salt + ice) we made ice cream using sugar, cream and vanilla:

While shaking our ice cream bags there was time to check out the flower garden we planted in the fall:

"Cheese Man" helped with our mentos geyser:

We wrapped up the meeting making slime with Borax, glue and water. Thank you girls for all of the fun and thank you volunteers for helping measure and mix and clean up!

The girls were pretty excited to get a thank you plaque from several members of the army who enjoyed the cookies our girls donated. They enjoyed some of the pictures the guys sent along too!

And look who dropped off the cat scratch pads to Animal Friends of WV!  Thanks so much!

Meeting #16: 04/02/15

Daisies continued working in the Clover Award and discussed foods local to West Virginia like Golden Delicious Apples, pepperoni rolls, Mister Bee potato chips and some honey. The girls were able to sample homemade pepperoni rolls and apples picked last fall at the WVU farm.

Daisies and Brownies continued work on the CPR badge by up-cycling Girl Scout cookie boxes into cat scratch pads. More than a dozen were made to be dropped off to Animal Friends of WV.

The Brownies completed their Brownie Quest Journey! Way to go girls! This has been a great experience. The girls brainstormed items that may be comforting to have if they were a child at the Bartlett House homeless shelter. They learned how to make a written donation request and graciously thanked our many donors. We were able to fill 24 bags with books, a stuffed toy, a children's magazine, pudding and fruit cups and a fruit bar, a folder with drawing paper and markers and crayons.

With the great sunny day we made sure to play outside before meeting's end.
