2015-16 Meeting #7: 11/18/15

The girls earned the Celebrating Community badge today.

We had a lot of fun learning the state song "West Virginia Hills" and so many girls volunteered to teach others different songs they knew.

To "follow a parade" we watched video of The Pride of West Virginia performing in a parade and at a half time show. Besides that, eight troop members recently marched in the Veteran's Day parade in Morgantown.

We learned about community, state and national symbols and learned the proper way to fold the U.S. flag

Our troop book is beginning to come together nicely and we were able to share our progress with the girls :)

2015-16 Meeting #6: 11/04/15

The girls are very excited to be working together on a troop book! We completed our My Family Story Badge as the girls brainstormed favorite family memories, traditions and holidays and then began drawing and coloring these ideas. We had a lot of fun collecting these stories. The girls have a little homework to learn more about their family and to become penpals with a family member.

We plan to have the book published in January 2016!

We also worked together to get our new girls' handprints on the troop banner for next Wednesday's Veteran's Day parade . . . I think everyone wants a turn carrying it down high street!

2015-16 Service Project: Food Drive

The weather was great AND we saw the WVU Mountaineer as we collected $300 and 7 boxes of food to donate to the Rock Forge Neighborhood House. Thank you!

2015-16 Meeting #5: 10/21/15

Girls earned their Best Self badge today. They were brave and tried 3 new foods including orange kefir (way too sour for most), bell peppers and sunflower seed butter (yum!).

Girls were super-creative at coloring their Brownie elf self AND decorating "happy boxes" that they can fill with a few favorite things and take a look at any time they are feeling blue.

We had a special guest, Brownie dad, Dr. Lisle who taught the girls some interesting things about our amazing bodies. Thanks for sharing your stethoscope!

2015-16 Service Project: Ronald McDonald House breakfast

The girls and their families were up early this morning to prepare breakfast for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House near Ruby Memorial Hospital. Working with parents and friends, the girls made blueberry muffins, banana muffins, cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies, eggs, bacon, sausage gravy, chopped fruit and a slow cooker breakfast meal.

One Girl Scout said that the food tasted better since they made it themselves!

Thank you all for donating your food and time!!

2015-16 Meeting #4: 10/07/15

The entire troop enjoyed earning the HIKER badge. We discussed the idea of Leave No Trace. Everyone had the opportunity to lay coins or pencils in different configurations on the trail for other girls to follow. I'm not sure if setting up the trail was more fun or if trying to find our friends was! Popping out and surprising each other was a laugh and the weather was perfect for this outdoor badge :)

While waiting for the markers to be set up, the girls had the opportunity to earn some community service time. We collected hundreds of dental care items at the Smile Drive several weekends ago and the girls bundled up these items so that they are ready to be donated to Women Infants and Children (WIC) in Morgantown...a friend will deliver them tomorrow. This was part or our Hear A Story Journey...we have taken action to help our community. Thank you, girls!
