2015-16 Meeting #15: 03/16/16

Out troop will soon begin it's Wonders of Water WOW! badge. Thinking of water pollution and how it affects animals, we were interested in having a visit from the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia. The three predator birds they brought were great and inspired a lot of questions!

Girls also worked together to shop for items for out canine friends from Hearts of Gold using money donated at the cookie booths÷

2015-16 Meeting #14: 03/02/16

Girls were surprised by a visit from volunteers from Hearts of Gold. These volunteers foster and train service dogs for veterans needing psychological and physical assistance and the three dog visitors were a huge hit! Girls had many questions that were well answered and then they each got a turn to pet all three friendly dogs.

At the end of the meeting we discussed obstacles to education faced by people I'm our country and others. The girls listened to a book called Gift Days that describes how a young Ugandan girl's hopes of eduction are destroyed when her mom dies and she becomes responsible for the chores and her 3 sisters. There was a happy ending though :)

2015-16 February 21st World Thinking Day

It was chaotic and loud but our girls took a tour of the world at this year's World Thinking Day. We displayed our awesome popsicle stick castle and tri-fold board for the United Kingdom.

2015-16 Meeting #13: 02/17/16

The girls were SO excited to get their Family Story books! They enjoyed a book signing and seeing their published artwork and family stories. We're so proud of all of our daughters!!

We also completed the final steps of the Inventor badge. Girls chose aspects of the Eastwood lunchtime that could be improved (e.g. quieter lunchtime, more milk choices for the 3rd graders who eat last each day, a door to recycling that doesn't always stay open, etc.), brainstormed solutions and worked as teams to write persuasive letters to Mrs. Hartshorn offering help and advice.

2015-16 Meeting #12: 02/03/16

At today's meeting the girls completed the badge for World Thinking Day. There were fun activities for the girls to complete to find their best qualities that make them good friends to others. Each girl chose a shape to represent their best qualities and showed off their shape to the troop. Our girls saw what Girl Scouts look like in other countries and we talked about how we are similar and different from one another.

We got to work on the Inventor badge. The creative juices were flowing . . . you can see that girls came up with dozens of ideas of how to make a circle more than a circle. We'll wrap up this badge at the next meeting.
